PUNE LGBTI PRIDE WALK
On December 11, 2011, Samapathik Trust organized the first Pune LGBTI Pride Walk. The first walk saw an attendance of 93 LGBTIH community members and heterosexual allies. The walk started from Pune Sarvajanik Sabha (Budhwar Peth) and went via Laxmi Road, Bajirao Road, Shaniwar Wada, Shivaji Road and ended at Pune Sarvajanik Sabha.
Since then, the Pride Walk has been an annual event, typically occurring in October/November/December. The event has been attended by community members and advocacy groups from Mumbai, with attendance growing every year. The 2014 Pride Walk saw around 300 participants. The police have been supportive and the event has always received positive media coverage.
WORLD AIDS DAY
In December of 2013, Samapathik Trust participated in World AIDS Day events. This event included workshops education people and employers on HIV/AIDS. An HIV awareness stall was set up, which included free condoms and informational booklets. Since this first event, World AIDS Day has become an annual event in Pune, with a history of positive feedback
POLICE STATION SHORT WORKSHOPS ON LGBTI ISSUES
From April to September of 2013, Samapathik Trust held workshops on alternative genders and sexualities at various police stations around Pune. The objective of these workshops was to increase dialog with law enforcement agencies, increase information/police assistance regarding LGBTIH issues, and to increase networking and communication between Samapathik Trust and law enforcement agencies. Positive reactions to these workshops were expressed by the police force, who began to use Samapathik Trust as a consulting resource when dealing with LGBTIH cases. Today, these workshops continue to be held throughout the year, as police turnover in Pune is very high.
ADVAIT ANNUAL QUEER THEATRE AND FILM FESTIVAL
Pune ADVAIT Annual Queer Theatre and Film Festival is held to engage the mainstream community and the closeted LGBTHI community in a dialogue on various aspects of sexual minorities.
